Not necessarily a question but needs to be addressed anyway.

I wasn't sure where to put this and maybe I'm dumb for not knowing but did you know your email link for the book club thinggy gives me an invalid syntax error? I can't find another link to it and not sure of the email address, so anyway, thought that should be known.

You should probably send a PM about this to Liz since she is the one getting it together.

uhm. which link are you referring to? The one in the news file? Seems to work just fine for me.

Yep, the news file one.

are you using a braillenote by any chance? if you are, then the braillenote will not work with that link because it is a mailto link. if you are using the bt version (braille style keyboard), then try this:

when you are on the link, press space with dot 3 until you hear "link start". then, press space with dots 2-5 twice and it should display the email address. sorry, i don't know the qt commands.

i can't remember what it is at the moment but all i can remember is that it was an @livejournal.com address. i'll see if i can post it here.

the braille note doesn't support a mailto link? What a piece of crap. I've now made up my mind to get a pacmate instead. Thank you for this information. lol

Post 7 by robbiec12345 (Good night and Farewell ) on Wednesday, 25-Mar-2009 15:30:30

yeh, a lot of people, me included, think the braillenote is crap! it's running windows CE 4.2 and the pacmate is running CE 5.2 (and windows mobile 6). even the braille sense is running CE 5. humanware need to do something and they need to do it quickly.

my local authority bought me my braillenote so i don't think they'd really wanna pay like 4000 pounds for something like a pacmate. but a pac mate supports word 2007 documents, powerpoint documents, excel documents (excel mobile documents which can be converted easily through activesync), windows live messenger (msn) and almost any third party programs that work with windows mobile 6. the list goes on. if i could, i'd really want to switch to a pac mate. oh and the pac mate i believe does support mailto links. i think it recognises them as "send mail" links.

note: this is referring to the pac mate omni which is the newer pac mate.

humanware are about to release a new upgrade. they have implemented an instant messaging (im) client. but because they have gone with this new open chat protocol called XMPP, only google talk and IChat will work. now name me someone who uses either of those. there's no windows live messenger (msn), no aim, no yahoo! how crap is that.

i could go on and on but i really can't be bothered right now.

If you use twitter, it will support that.

Post 9 by robbiec12345 (Good night and Farewell ) on Thursday, 26-Mar-2009 3:47:04

from what i know, only the mobile version of twitter will work with the braillenote. the standard version won't even load the pages!

The BrailleNote is way behind the times, technologically speaking. I want a BrailleSense. But I guess this is getting off topic. LOL.

Since this is getting off topic why not contribute. BN sucks for me ad i hope they fixed the pacmate crashing loads of times. btw picket pc, iChat is a pgoram for the macintosh operating systems and it does support aim.

Post 12 by robbiec12345 (Good night and Farewell ) on Thursday, 26-Mar-2009 11:45:07

i'm not sure if they did sort out the problem with the pac mate crashing. but since pac mate omni, if u do a cold reset, it will not delete all ur data. same goes for if the battery goes completely flat. i have heard stories of the pac mate omni freezing but i think it has been improved now. i'd recommend getting the latest firmware (6.2) as this is more stable than previous pac mate omni releases.

and regarding IChat. i thought aim were doing a deal with google talk so that they could use XMPP. i also thought that this wasn't going to happen anytime soon. but i don't use IChat so i may be wrong.
